Intro | Team Project Pan 2020

Skincare, Makeup / Thursday, January 16th, 2020

Using up the products you have, getting your money’s worth. Not letting them collect dust and expire. Actually knowing how long it takes you to go through a certain product before you have to get a new one.

Those are goals of »Project Panners«! The name stems from eyeshadows that you »hit pan« on when you use up so much product that you start to see the container/pan they are in. Some of you might have seen that I started my own »Project Pan« at the end of last year – just to try this concept out. But now there’s a new year, a chance for beginning fresh and actually joining a different concept just in time! 😀

The new concept is a full face rolling concept as Kat and Hailey, the two people who I think came up with it, like to describe it. There’s a check-in each month and an option to exchange a product for a different one every three months. When one product runs out, has to be tossed or you just reached the goal you had for it, another product will take its place. If you want to learn more about it, feel free to watch Kat’s and Hailey’s video:

My selected products

I don’t have products for every category and that is totally fine. It’s supposed to be enjoyable and not forced! There are some categories in my makeup collection that I don’t have many options in, so it’s pointless to include them when I use them almost each time I do my makeup anyway. I took many products from my previous Project Pan, but added a lot more. Let’s check them out!

Lovely Day Mermaid After Sun Spray

I have no problem with this product, but I didn’t notice anything interesting to report on either – just that the mist is nice and fine. I want to use this product up because I often forget to use it which makes my Incipedia toner that I already bought wait even longer to be used. 😀 I don’t want to have both open at the same time.

Will I repurchase it?
This product is discontinued, but I wouldn’t have repurchased it anyway because I have a different toner spray to try next.

NUI Cosmetics Natural Liquid Foundation

I like this foundation and am happy to use it. It’s a bit annoying that I have to mix it with a green concealer to make it match my undertone, but mind, I have to do that with every foundation – none is yellow/olive enough.  That’s one of the reasons why I rarely wear foundation. At least I have this option, unlike many people of colour who can’t even find products with the right depth. 🙁

Will I repurchase it?
I’d rather support a brand with a wider range of colours next time I buy a foundation.

Sante Correcting Concealer Trio

I love this product so so much. It can be truly undetectable on the skin, is super easy to blend out and has colours that work for my skintone. I almost always apply it with my fingers. I wish it had a bit more coverage to correct the dark circles under my eyes fully, but I don’t mind using a dab of regular concealer on top because the skin will still look nice. I’m however annoyed that this product isn’t available in a darker version. I want to use mine up before it goes off.

Will I repurchase it?
No, because the brand unfortunately got bought by L’Oréal: A huge powerful company involved with animal-testing AND Nestlé. 🤢

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer

I removed the stopper of this tube so that I can reach more of the remaining product inside. I enjoy this concealer as it looks quite skin-like on my skin. Since mine is getting old, it’s now much drier and therefore doesn’t look as nice as it used to. I’m still dedicated to use it up as long as it is usable and doesn’t get funky.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure yet – I have a concealer from a different brand lined up to try next.

NUI Cosmetics Natural Brow Sculpt

I use this product in the shade “Reo” for contouring as it has the perfect colour for fair and light skintones. It’s not difficult to blend out and looks extremely natural on the skin. I want to use up as much of it as possible before it goes off.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure yet due to the fact it contains Cinnamal, Linalool, Limonene and Geraniol (from the plant-based extracts) which I didn’t notice previously. Those ingredients are proven to be irritating on the skin and I try to choose the most sensitive-skin-friendly products if possible.

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

This is such a hyped/popular product since years and in my opinion, that’s for good reasons. I have the lightest shade and use it for highlighting = as the last step of my base makeup routine (unless I use a fixing spray afterwards). I have used it mixed into foundation but since I don’t wear foundation often, I don’t haven’t formed an opinion on how much difference this products makes in this case. As highlighter it’s fantastic – it looks super smooth and reflective. The light reflected looks almost white and I would describe the finish as metallic in the most natural way possible. The base colour is so sheer and close to my skin tone that it’s basically not showing up which is great. I want to use this product up because it’s getting old and I’m annoyed at my myself for thinking I had to use it only occasionally due to the high price tag. I obviously forgot that this bottle contains 30 ml, the size of a standard foundation! I love the glass bottle, though for hygienic reasons I wish it came in an airless pump container or a tube.

Will I repurchase it?
Probably yes. I don’t know of any proper dupe that is more affordable while still being accessible to me. Do you?

Catrice Eye Foundation Waterproof Eyeshadow Primer

This primer works well and makes a big difference – but it’s not the perfect one for me. I have oily lids and want to find something more heavy-duty. There is not a ton left in the tube, so I will remove the stopper to reach every corner and use this product up completely.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure because I want to go back to the e.l.f “sheer” eye primer and find out whether that one performs truly better than this Catrice one or not. I remember thinking I liked it more, but the cost per ml is really bad in comparison. So let’s see! 🧐

Terre Mère Smudge Proof Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Base (PR)

I received this product in PR as part of a onetime subscription box (Petit Vour). This primer makes a difference, but there are waaay better ones out there. Yet, I want to use as much of it as possible before it expires.

Would I purchase it myself?
No. In my opinion, the pricing is too high for the noticeable effect you get.

Essence Get your glitter on! Glitter Primer

This is a weird product to me. It looks like extremely watered-down lash-glue in the way it has an opalescent colour to it. But the shimmer doesn’t disappear after a while which makes it helpful to see where you already applied it. There’s a chance that I have a dud because the consistency never felt super homogenic. It becomes a bit tacky after a while which makes it effective, however I haven’t used it enough to actually have an opinion on it. I just try to use it as much as I can to form an opinion– you never know if Essence will bring this product back again.

Will I repurchase it?
It’s discontinued now and I probably got it right before that happened.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow “Wattles”

I love the colour a lot and it has such a beautiful satin shine to it that is somehow rare to find nowadays. It’s almost like a glowy skin finish. I apply it with my fingers all over the eyes for a grungy slightly spooky look and there’s not really another way I have liked to use it so far. It’s unfortunately already quite dry (it’s usually a wet-feeling formula) so I want to find out how much use I can still get out of it.

Will I repurchase it?
I might repurchase it someday in case I don’t find a dupe in a pressed eyeshadow formula.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow “Cuteologist”

I love the colour of this product which is hard to find in a vegan product. It’s a bright brick red in a matte formula with some bigger golden glitter particles that show up on the skin. Therefore it doesn’t work for me as blush colour, but it’s pretty on the eyes all over. The pigmentation is very lackluster now that it dried out quite a bit, so I want to use it up completely if possible AND still enjoyable.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure due to the fact that it dries out so quickly and it has never been super pigmented to begin with.

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics Mood Crayon “Calm”

I adore this colour and liked the smooth formula it originally had. It was never as perfectly smooth and buttery as the “Cool” Crayon I own from them though. The “Calm” Crayon is not new to my collection but I was surprised it already dried out a bit while most other Crayons I own are still fine. Maybe I once forgot to put the cap back on or it’s because the product one day started to slide out of the wooden(?) tube. It’s still usable I think, so I want to use what I have left of it as much as possible now.

Will I repurchase it?
Yes. The colour is fabulous and unique to me.

Catrice Liquid Liner (Matt)

I used the regular version (does it even exist anymore?) of this liquid liner years and years because it’s pigmented, layerable, precise and quite long-wearing on me. This is a matte version of it which is – not surprisingly – a bit drier.  This product isn’t old but I have to use it more to form a proper opinion before it dries out or expires.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure yet.

Essence Lash Base Mascara

The results I have when it’s layered with the Pacifica mascara are really nice because this lash primer adds volume to any wet and more natural-looking mascara. Since this base is white, you need to be able to cover it completely without getting clumps. The Pacifica mascara is really black and thin which is why this combo works so well. I find my lashes to be volumized, lengthened and I’d say it might hold the curl better than usual. I’m curious to see, whether I manage to use this lash base up before it’s dry.

Will I repurchase it?
I theoretically would. I had no success trying to find an ingredients list of this one to compare it with the new primer Essence has. The new one just might have gotten a packaging update and not a formula update – who knows.

Pacifica Beauty Stellar Gaze Mascara (PR)

Just as I stated in my introductory post and my mascara review, I only get a result that works for me when I use it in combination with other mascaras. In my first month, I mainly used the Kush Mascara combined with the Pacifica one for my top lashes and a different one for my bottom lashes that does not smudge. It looks really pretty that way and has more impact than the mentioned mascara I use for my bottom lashes (it’s all in my review). I like to use the Pacifica mascara on top of the Essence lash primer. I want to use this mascara up if possible.

Will I repurchase it?
No.

[I won this product in a giveaway.] Just as I stated in my introductory post and my mascara review, I only get a result that works for me when I use it in combination with other mascaras. The Kush mascara is getting quite dry, which is probably not surprising considering it’s not freshly opened. 😀 Let’s see how long it’s still usable.

Will I repurchase it?
Absolutely not – way too pricey for what I can use it for.

Colourpop Lippie Pencil “Wet”

This colour is currently discontinued, but I still have a backup of it. It’s similar to OCC “Sebastian” liner and probably more brown than Linda Hallberg’s “Greige” Crayon. It might be a dupe for MAC “Stone”? I’m sure there are comparison swatches somewhere. It’s a handy neutral colour than can be used to contour the lips no matter what colour you want to put on top (unless you want a super dark one). I like it, it’s soft and pigmented, but the packaging is horrible. The product slides up and down in this sharpenable plastic tube which is incredibly inconvenient. On top of that, it’s getting old so I want to see how much I can use it before I get too frustrated and I have toss it.

Will I repurchase it?
I would not repurchase it if it came back in stock unless Colourpop updated this packaging.

Lime Crime Plushies Soft Matte Lipstick “Marmalade”

This formula is a comfortable sheer matte liquid lipstick that looks beautiful dabbed out with fingers, creating a blurry lipline. It can also work on top of other products. I love orange tones but since I have naturally pink lips, the colour doesn’t turn out as warm as I had hoped for. That’s why I don’t wear it enough. Now that my lips are dry and cracked from winter, this product is obviously not helping with moisture in any way and I can’t wear it alone. It’s getting old so I try to incorporate into looks more often and use it combined with other warm- or grey-toned coloured products  – or maybe as liquid blush.

Will I repurchase it?
I wouldn’t repurchase this specific colour, but probably another one.

Lime Crime Wet Cherry Lipgloss “Kick It”

First off – I’m not a “lipgloss person”, so including one here is a very bold move of me. 😀 This product gives me the dreaded white rim on the inside of my mouth, not long after I applied it. I found out that I can almost prevent that my using a brown lip liner or the Lime Crime “Ghost Veil” Primer underneath – this way I’m trying to use the gloss up. The texture is thick but not sticky and semi-opaque. It has an artificial cherry scent which I could happily live without.

Will I repurchase it?
No. This colour is discontinued and I don’t think I would get a different colour either. It’s just not my thing.

Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray

This product really helps with keeping my mineral sunscreen (that I wear with concealers and powders on top) on throughout the day so that it’s not separating in my often oily T-zone. It gives a natural skin-finish instead of a powdery matte one but I noticed that my skin clearly looks quite matte at the end of the day. I ADORE that it’s without harsh alcohol and fragance – this is so rare to find! I want to use it up quickly because the pump is broken and leaks.

Will I repurchase it?
Not entirely sure since this is my second bottle (I completely used up the first one) and with both, the pump broke at one point and I don’t know why. I have other setting sprays from this brand that haven’t had this problem. I might be able to pour this product into another spray bottle but I want to try the one in the silver bottle (I have a mini) a bit more to see whether it does an equally good job at keeping my makeup on and has a better pump.
