February | Team Project Pan 2020

Skincare, Makeup / Saturday, February 22nd, 2020

A month has passed since I started this year-long project which was initiated by the two people behind »Beauty News« on YouTube. So far I’m really happy with where I’m at although I had not as many opportunities to wear makeup than I usually have – due to health issues. I’m already removing one product from this project and adding a replacement for it. Further, I’m almost done with another product so I introduced another product that will take it’s place, too!
So let’s see how well I’ve done and what I’m thinking about all these products right now  – think of it as long-term makeup reviews that add onto the first ones I made in the intro post of this #teamprojectpan2020 challenge.

Lovely Day Mermaid After Sun Spray

I used more than half of what I started with and I’m determined to use it more generously now. I still haven’t noticed any effect and currently use it before my moisturizer or to gently clean my face in the morning with a soft cotton round or towel.
± Since I made a lot of progress on this product and think I will finish it way before next update, I’m introducing another product (see below).

Will I repurchase it?
This product is discontinued, but I wouldn’t have repurchased it anyway because I have a different toner spray to try next.

My overall rating: No opinion

Paula’s Choice Earth Sourced Toner

This product has been reformulated at whatever time. I thought the brand just updated the packaging, but no: The ingredients changed a lot and the bottle contains less product now (the price per ml might be still the same though). When I noticed it I was really disappointed because I remembered really liking the feeling and hydration of my skin. Did the formula become worse? Subjectively yes, but since I’m no expert whatsoever, I can not tell if it objectively is. I will probably use it prior to my daily sunscreen application now.

Will I repurchase it?
No. I don’t care for it.

Month 01 → 103 g
Month 02
→ tbc

My overall rating: No opinion

NUI Cosmetics Natural Liquid Foundation

My opinions on this product haven’t changed: I still like it, enjoying how flattering it looks on my skin in spite of its matte finish. It#s annoying that the undertone isn’t a match for me, so I always have to mix it with e.g. green concealer. It’s difficult for me to use it up since I don’t wear foundation regularly.

Will I repurchase it?
No because it doesn’t come in a wide and appropriate range of shades. I do not want to support this bullsh*t. 😉🖕

Sante Correcting Concealer Trio

I still like this product very much (performance, effect and the colour match) and I’m happy I further »hit the pan« – even though the weight difference doesn’t sound like much. 😅

Will I repurchase it?
No because the brand nowadays belongs to the L’Oréal group which tests on animals and is affiliated with Nestlé. 💔 Also, this is the only colour this product comes in …

Month 00 → 16.74 g
Month 01
→ 16.55 g

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer

I enjoyed this product a lot, but now it reached a point of intense dryness which obviously isn’t flattering or doing me aaany favors. It’s well about time I’m throwing it out!
± I’m replacing this concealer with two other concealers – see below.

Will I repurchase it?
Not sure yet since I’ll presumably try different concealers in the future.

Month 00 → 27.41 g
Month 01
→ 27.37 g

My overall rating:
4/5

Colourpop No Filter Concealer

I’m not a big fan of this formula since it can look dry and emphasize texture and fine lines, but it’s nice that the product is is easily spread on the skin. I will use them in conjunction to add a bit more coverage in certain spots and, with the white one, lightening and desaturating discoloured areas on my face.

Will I repurchase it?
No.

Month 01 → 45.51 g
Month 02
→ tbc

(weight of product in packaging)

My overall rating:
2/5

NUI Cosmetics Natural Brow Sculpt

I use this product for cream contouring since this way the colour is perfect for me. Never used it on my brows so far, yet I assume it would only work to shade and fill in already decent looking brows.

Will I repurchase it?
I despite that it contains Oregano Leaf Extract, Thyme Extract, Cinnamon Bark Extract, Rosmarin Leaf Extract, Lavender Flower Extract, Orange Root Extract, Cinnamal, Linalool, Limonene and Geraniol = all probably irritating and clearly unneeded ingredients for cosmetics. They have no skin-benefits, rather the contrary. Which means no!

Month 00 → 14.60 g
Month 01
→ 14.54 g

(weight of product in packaging)

My overall rating:
4/5

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

I’m so disappointed the scale doesn’t show a difference in weight because I definitely used this product several times within the last month. But that’s what you get from imprecise scales that aren’t able to show difference of less than a gram. Also, it’s crazy how this contains 30 ml which is the average size of a foundation! This product seems highly overprized but look at how much you get. I’m hoping so badly that it will come in a pump one day so it’ll be hygienic for longer.

Will I repurchase it?
It’s a beautiful product, so I think I will – unless I find something more affordable that still does the trick … I definitely recommend it.

Month 00 → 137 g
Month 01
→ 137 g 🙄

Catrice Eye Foundation Waterproof Eyeshadow Primer

I’m still getting use of this product, but I know that it won’t be for too long anymore. I will keep in this challenge until next month.

Will I repurchase it?
Maybe yes, maybe no. It’s an effective and good product so I would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t super oily eyelids, but my eyelids often are so I’m looking for something better.

Month 00 → 13.06 g
Month 01
→ 12.95 g

Terre Mère Smudge Proof Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Base (PR)

This works in some degree, but not well enough for me. I plan to use it underneath my eyes to prep for concealer now.

Will I repurchase it?
No. Look at the price tag! 🤯 Would not have bought it myself.

Month 00 → 29.64 g

Essence Get your glitter on! Glitter Primer

Within the last month I finally used it more often and found it worked alright as a slighty sticky prep for shimmery eyeshadows. I have hooded eyes so I still experienced transfer, but clearly less than without it. I don’t think it’s a good idea to use it with loose glitter – it’s probably not sticky enough.

Will I repurchase it?
It’s discontinued. No.

Month 00 → 15.31 g
Month 01
→ 15.32 g 😂⁉️🤡

My rating so far:
2.5/5

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow “Wattles”

I love the colour of this product – it’s great applied with fingers for minimal looks with a bold lip. Or without a bold lip. It’s subtle a bit grungy and mysterious, definitely not making people with skintones like mine look more awake … 😅 It looks natural due to the satin finish. I feel not enough brands still produce this finish nowadays! Sadly it’s becoming dry and I’m curious how long it will still be usable.

Will I repurchase it?
Depends on whether I find a colour dupe in a pressed powder or liquid-to-dry formula.

Month 00 → 19.34 g
Month 01
→ 19.31 g

(weight of product in packaging)

My overall rating:
4/5

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow “Cuteologist”

I love the colour of this product which is hard to find in a vegan product. It’s a bright brick red in a matte formula with some bigger golden glitter particles that show up on the skin. I tried using it as a blush, but the big glitter flecks totally threw me off. It’s becoming suuuper dry so the visible pan (look at the photo) must have happened when a little chunk of the eyeshadow fell out. I’m still pushing myself to make use out of this product, but the end is admittedly not in far sight …

Will I repurchase it?
No, it’s not a must-have in my collection. The matte Super Shock Shadow formula apparently dries out very quickly which is more than inconvenient.

Month 00 → 18.69 g
Month 01
→ 18.56 g

Linda Hallberg Cosmetics Mood Crayon “Calm”

I finally used it and you can see the beautiful results on my makeup account here! It’s soo dry and tacky though… I will try to make it more creamy again somehow so I can still get use out of it. I had to sharpen it quite a bit so it’s a bit funny the weight difference is so small.

Will I repurchase it?
Yes – I already did. 😌 It’s in my favourite colour!

Catrice Liquid Liner (Matt)

It#s great that this challenge made me rediscover this liner again. It’s precise, really black and so far didn’t flake on me. It#s not one of these matte liquid liners that can’t be layered either.

Will I repurchase it?
I might!

Month 01

Essence Lash Base Mascara

It#s getting drier but I’m determined to still keep using it. 🙈

Will I repurchase it?
Essence now has a product that appears to be the same so it either is just a packaging change or they tweaked the formula. I will try that new one!

Month 00 → 20.57 g
Month 01
→ 20.56 g

Pacifica Beauty Stellar Gaze Mascara (PR)

You can find my opinion on this mascara here, including wear photos. It used to be a quite wet formula but now it thickened up and I actually might like it more now since it’s become more volumizing. However, due to that thicker formula it doesn’t glide on and coat the lashes on top of the Essence lash primer as beautifully as it used to.

Will I repurchase it?
No. It’s very beautiful and deep black, but not very accessible in Germany and I  also prefer mascaras that work on my lower lashes without smudging.

Month 00 → 16.97 g
Month 01
→ 16.82 g

My overall rating:
2.5/5

Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara

You can find my opinion on this mascara here, including wear photos. Now I like it more than when I first opened it because less product is on the brush which means I don’t have to wipe off as much product and get less clumps.

Will I repurchase it?
I received it in a giveaway, but no. It smudges on me, is difficult to remove and doesn’t work on my lower lashes. On top of that, it’s way too expensive!

Month 00 → 58.30 g
Month 01
→ 58.22 g

(weight of product in packaging)

My overall rating:
1.5/5

Colourpop Lippie Pencil “Wet”

It’ sooooo annoying to use because the product slides in and out of the tube and is difficult to control. I adore the colour and found a stunning lip combo by combining it with the Lime Crime Plushie (see below) and a hint of the Lime Crime lipgloss (see below as well).

Will I repurchase it?
I hate the packaging, but the colour is discontinued anyway = now. I’m trying to replace ith with the Linda Hallberg Crayon in “Greige” though it’s not a perfect colour dupe.

Month 01

Lime Crime Plushies Soft Matte Lipstick “Marmalade”

I used it combined with the Colourpop lip liner which is currently the easiest way to keep me using this shade. I want to try out more combinations during the upcoming month.

Will I repurchase it?

No, it’s not my ideal colour since my naturally pink lips make the finished result look not warm-toned enough for my liking. I however enjoy the formula and own it in different shades as well.

Month 00 → 30.79 g
Month 01
→ 30.74 g

(weight of product in packaging)

My overall rating:
4.5/5

Lime Crime Wet Cherry Lipgloss “Kick It”

I’m still not a gloss person but I found to enjoy using it in the thinnest layer ever on top of dry lip products. I also sometimes touch up my lips with a tiny bit of it during the day. That means I won’t use it up quickly, but it keeps me getting use out of it which is nice.

Will I repurchase it?
The colour is discontinued and I’m afraid of the white rim the other colours would give me, like this one does when used on it’s own. That probably means no? It feels nicely smooth on the lips though.

Month 00 → 31.06 g
Month 01
→ 31.01 g

Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray

The only thing I don’t like about this product is the pump. It always seems to start leaking at one point which truly is unfortunate.

Will I repurchase it?
Theoretically yes as I already repurchased it once, but I’d ask the brand whether they improved the spray pump beforehand. The Dewy Spray for example has a very different nozzle that, by the way, creates the finest mist ever. Head to head I guess with the Linda Hallberg glow spray nozzle!

Have you joined the challenge yet? And do you have different opinions and experiences with these products than I do? That would be really interesting to me. I’m happy to interact with you in the comments. You can always request future post topics there, too! 😘

  1. The PC Earth Sourced Toner annoyed me, I always decant toners into a spray bottle, but instead of a fine mist all over my face it squirted a lot of product on one small area. I like the Skin Recovery Toner from their line, but once I’ve finished that I’ll go back to Balea Med & hope they will not discontinue it again.

    1. Yep it doesn’t have the typical toner consistency, it feels more like a lightweight serum! I use it with my hands or on a soft cloth to gently clean my face in the morning. The latter is definitely rather wasteful but it’s better I’m using it than neglecting it and letting it go bad 😀 I’m honestly using it for the sake of using it up, but I know the ingredients are theoretically good for the skin, so why not right?
